LECH MAJEWSKI

Lech Majewski

Lech Majewski was born in Poland and established himself as an international artist: director, producer, poet, writer, painter and composer. He graduated in 1977 from Lodz film School in Poland. His striking debut The Knight opened the doors to the world. Since then he worked in USA, England, Italy and Poland with many prestigious production studios like Miramax, Columbia Tri Star, David Lynch's Propaganda Films and Mestiere Cinema and collaborated with such fames as Gary Oldman Dennis Hopper, and David Bowie.
Some of the many film awards are: Prix Don Quixote, Barcelona, Best Actor Nomination at European Academy Awards, Paris, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Trencianske Teplice for Wojaczek, Grand Prix, Camerimage and Prix Federico Fellini for Angelus and  Grand Prix Rome International Film Festival for The Garden of Earthly Delights. In 2000 Lech Majewski became a member of the European Film Academy.Majewski’s films are described as ‘beautiful and mystical’, ‘profound, subtle and very original’ (The Knight), ‘explosive’, ‘otherworldly’ and ‘defying expectations’ (Basquiat). He directs with ‘assurance’, ‘unswerving intensity’ (Wojaczek), ‘dark sense of humor’ (Angelus) and ‘spare’, ‘arresting’, ‘vivid’ and ‘painterly’ visual style (The Knight). His ‘composition’ is ‘meticulous’ (Angelus). His films are ‘modern visual arts masterpieces’ (The Roe’s Room), ‘an accomplished and engrossing spectacle’, which create ‘a haunting, austere parable’ or ‘a striking metaphor for our times’, where we ‘enter a dreamlike world where our imagination is given free rein’ (Gospel According to Harry).
