Lech Majewski |
Lech Majewski was born in Poland and established himself as an
international artist: director, producer, poet, writer, painter
and composer. He graduated in 1977 from Lodz film School in
Poland. His striking debut The Knight opened the doors to the
world. Since then he worked in USA, England, Italy and Poland with
many prestigious production studios like Miramax, Columbia Tri
Star, David Lynch's Propaganda Films and Mestiere Cinema and
collaborated with such fames as Gary Oldman Dennis Hopper, and
David Bowie. |

Some of the many film awards are: Prix Don Quixote,
Barcelona, Best Actor Nomination at European Academy Awards,
Paris, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Trencianske Teplice for
Wojaczek, Grand Prix, Camerimage and Prix Federico Fellini for
Angelus and
Grand Prix Rome International Film Festival for
The
Garden of Earthly Delights. In 2000 Lech Majewski became a member
of the European Film Academy.Majewski’s films are described as ‘beautiful and mystical’,
‘profound, subtle and very original’ (The Knight), ‘explosive’,
‘otherworldly’ and ‘defying expectations’ (Basquiat). He directs
with ‘assurance’, ‘unswerving intensity’ (Wojaczek), ‘dark sense
of humor’ (Angelus) and ‘spare’, ‘arresting’, ‘vivid’ and
‘painterly’ visual style (The Knight). His ‘composition’ is
‘meticulous’ (Angelus). His films are ‘modern visual arts
masterpieces’ (The Roe’s Room), ‘an accomplished and engrossing
spectacle’, which create ‘a haunting, austere parable’ or ‘a
striking metaphor for our times’, where we ‘enter a dreamlike
world where our imagination is given free rein’ (Gospel According
to Harry). |
