A lone man drives at night along a Mazovian road on his way home. He passes some trucks when he suddenly notices a girl waving a burning jacket like a torch. She is a drug addict from the nearby rehabilitation center. She is struck by a car and killed. He, Leon Kamelski “Chameleon,” is the police chief who will do anything to find out what she was doing there on the road. He has to deal with corrupt officials and police and businessmen-gangsters, who made a fortune in smuggling,  theft, extortion, and now are respected citizens. He really wants to punish the guilty, if only because the local status quo, which had been functioning well for years, has been disrupted. Even if it means putting family members behind bars and losing his own freedom. Alone against everyone…

 

Janusz Kijowski

Graduate of the History Department of the University of Warsaw (1972) and the Film Direction Department of the National Film Academy  in Lodz (1978). Director and screenwriter. During his studies he was a film critic for the weekly “Kultura.” Since 1983 he teaches at the Institut National Superieur des Arts du Spectacle in Brussels and, since 1998, also at the National Film Academy in Lodz. Numerous awards for the film “Kung-fu” (including award for directorial debut at the Polish Feature Film Festival).
