The story takes place in a community of Eastern European emigrants who are trying to establish residency in Great Britain. A young Russian woman, Tanya, along with Artyom, her 10-year-old son, come to Britain at the invitation of her fiance. When he fails to show up, Tanya requests political asylum. She lives in a deserted seaside resort where all refugees are forced to reside. As long as Tanya’s immigration status remains up in the air, she must stay here for 12-16 months. She is somewhat naïve and seeks romance. As a means of making money to pay for her passport, she becomes involved with an Internet pornographer, challenging her morality and conscience.
