Somewhere in an out-of-the-way place in the countryside near a border crossing a sociology student, Banan (a first-rate performance by Bartosz Obuchowicz), works at a gas station. One day the daily monotony is interrupted by the arrival of a luxury Audi with a badly wounded gangster. Banan intends to call for help, but the station owner has another plan – he wants to wait until the gangster has bled to death, and then they will be able to rake in the money. Nearby small town life goes on:  the gynecologist, Wolanski, has problems with his beautiful wife who is having an affair with a policeman. To make matters worse his son runs away from home. Subsequent threads of the plot are integrated.

Director Piotr Weresniak calls his film „a tragicomedy resembling a crime story,” and critics delight in comparing it to Joel Coen’s „Fargo.” Somehow interspersing several themes in the sensational plot, the winter scenery, and the strong permeation of humor in the picture justify such an association.  As a matter of fact „The Station” deals with a new formula for the most part thanks to the skillful blend of opposing film and esthetic conventions.
