Photo Exhibition “Faces of Polish Cinema”

Nov 1-10, Seattle, Broadway Performance Hall, upper floor

As the words THE END disappear from the screen, so do the images of the actors – then they also vanish from our memories.  The thought of holding on to them longer than the projection of the film prompted us to create this photographic exhibition.  It features pictures of twenty Polish actors in their film roles from recent years.  Among them are prominent actors with superb careers in movies and theater: Gustaw Holoubek. Jerzy Stuhr, Daniel Olbrychski.  Then the somewhat younger generation, moviegoers’ favorites, excellent in contemporary roles:  Katarzyna Figura, Cezary Pazura, Zbigniew Zamachowski.  And the youngest generation:  Izabella Scorupco, Pawel Deląg, Michal Żebrowski, who most certainly display the brilliance of true stars.

The source of inspiration for FACES OF POLISH CINEMA was last year’s poster exhibit by Maria and Ryszard Kott.  We endeavor to continue the outstanding tradition initiated by them to enrich the Polish Film Festival with an additional setting.  Our presentation could not have found a better site.  We know all of the actors immortalized in the photographs from the festival and sometimes even from their visits to Seattle.  We will see many of them this year and we hope that when filmgoers leave the movie theater, this somewhat different encounter with the actors will give them joy.  This initiative would not come to fruition without the support of the Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association and without the help of our friends Maria and Ryszard Kott, Dr. Aleksandra Ziętak and Jagoda Bergruen, as well as Elżbieta Das and Kuba Poraj-Kuczewski in Poland.  Thank you very much!
