Birdplay
USA, 2006, 1:38, filmmaker: Karolina Sobecka
Birdplay is a playful investigation of the potentialities in organization of forms. We experience reality from fragments of impressions, which dynamically evolve creating moods, feelings, and structures. This video is a series of impressions of the sounds and images of the city, where power lines, buildings, lights, birds, and structures come together and break apart.
Dorsal Ventral Asymmetry
USA, 2003, 2:02, filmmaker: Karolina Sobecka, music: Zbigniew Preisner
Dorsal Ventral Asymmetry is a term in biology that describes the up-down asymmetry in animal body plan. Gravity being what it is, there are lots of inevitable differences between up and down. We built a civilized world, but we keep our vulnerable bellies, unarmed with rational thought, close to the ground and nature.
A Missing A
USA, 2006, 7:12, filmmaker: Magdalena Szczepaniak
A Missing A is a sound/image construct inspired by a text by Samuel Beckett Imagination Dead Imagine and voiced by Gary Hill. The work loosely follows an umbrella, both literally and figuratively transforming the object from a prosaic entity into a metaphorical energy that takes part in the chaos and entropy of the life/death conundrum.
