A Celebration of Yiddish Film and Klezmer Music Oct. 19

Experience the Golden Age of Yiddish film with a special screening of a classic Yiddish talkie with a live musical performance by Klezmer Local #206 this Sunday, October 22nd from noon til 3pm at SIFF Cinema Uptown. Admission is free!

These talkie films are some of the few pictures we have of Jewish life prior to the destruction of the towns where these films were shot. In a short 3 year period while working under the shadow of Nazism, Joseph Green produced and co-directed four feature films capturing Jewish life in Poland starring American actors.

Klezmer can be considered instrumental Jewish folk music that played an integral part in the culture and celebrations of Eastern European Jewry. Some of the "traditional" instruments in the bands were clarinet, violin, flute, and accordion.
