Mystification

Mystification

(Mistyfikacja)

It is year 1968. Jacob Łazowski (Maciej Stuhr), expelled from the university just before his graduation exams, comes across a sensational clue that may change the face of cultural history. His investigation proves that renowned Polish painter & writer, Witkacy (Jerzy Stuhr), did not commit suicide in 1939.

The reality offers further substantial evidence of the remarkable deception game staged by the artist. Witkacy’s lover keeps selling her unknown portraits to art dealers; one of his many ex-mistresses treasures postcards she kept receiving from him after the date of his alleged death. Everything seems to prove that the grand auteur, the provocateur, the notorious troublemaker is still alive. He likes to enjoy his daily glass of beer, peeking at young girls - skirts, playing perverse games with his women and indulging in the most beautiful of all arts and crafts - the art of lying, sarcasm, exaggeration & deceit...

Mystification is a startling tale of passion, madness and ecstasy transgressing the boundaries of cognitive explanation.
