One Billion Happy People

One Billion Happy People

(Miliard szczęśliwych ludzi)

Early 90’s, post-communist rural Poland. Bayer Full a band of four village hicks with synthesiser tunes knocks out tacky Euro-disco songs about spotted pants and the like. The band eventually becomes the most successful Polish group ever. Their fans smile, dance, get drunk and buy 16 million of their records. 2010, Shanghai. Krzysztof Darewicz, Polish maverick journalist phones Sławek Świerzyński, a farmer and the leader of the long forgotten band. Darewicz has a plan: “You will perform concerts in China, and you will record a new album - in Chinese! ...simple?” Świerzyński is laughing, Darewicz is not. Even Chopin would have been worried.
