Persona Non Grata
(Persona Non Grata)
The expression "persona non grata" takes on multiple meanings in this psychological drama unfolding in the high stakes and morally dangerous world of international diplomacy. The Polish ambassador to Uruguay, Viktor, is caught up in a web of political and personal intrigue. After the sudden death of his beloved wife he visits his home country, where he meets Oleg, his old Russian friend. Their close friendship is burdened by two doubts; Victor thinks that Oleg might have infiltrated the Polish political underground, as well as suspecting him of having an affair with his late wife. Meanwhile, Victor has recommended his young protege, Waldemar, work with the Polish embassy in Uruguay. Waldemar has a beautiful wife, Oksana, and Victor unwittingly transfers some of his feelings for his dead wife onto his new employee's woman. Thus, the reality surrounding him
is different to what he originally envisioned. The Polish embassy is working to structure an arms deal, competing against Russians. When it seems that the embassy may be infiltrated by the Russian intelligence, Victor suspects Oksana. and undertakes an amateurish investigation looking for support in Alfredo, an Italian ambassador. Diplomatic bungling compounds an insidious double-cross that brings disgrace, but opens a door to the unknown.
