Commandant Edelman (Dowódca Edelman)

Marek Edelman (born in 1918) is a Polish political and social activist, cardiologist and last living leader of the Warsaw ghetto uprising. He is arguably one of the most interesting Europeans of the last hundred years. After WWII Edelman studied medicine in Lodz and became a well-known cardiologist. He never left Poland; he chose to stay there as a witness to the Holocaust and to fight for human rights. He participated in the Round Table Talks in 1989 when Poland became a free country and remained active both as a doctor and a human rights advocate. His letter, justifying the use of NATO armies in Kosovo, was quoted by President Clinton. The film is a fascinating story about Edelman, a man who, despite circumstances always walked on the bright side of life. It is a story about life, love, friendship and fight ... and some not-so-obvious rules.
