Righteous (Sprawiedliwy)

It is 1942. The Nazis launch the decisive phase of destruction. From the ghettos, Jews are transported to the death camps. They are deported from rural areas loading stations. This is the case for one of the Sandomierz region villages, the setting of the film. Anastazja takes in an abandoned Jewish girl – Hania. It doesn’t go unnoticed with the local blackmailers, who blackmail Anastasia, demanding ransom for their silence. So the girl must be hidden. This way, Hania meets Pajtek, a local tight-lipped sort and freak, but also a very sensitive man, extremely responsive to the beauty of nature and the fate of animals. Hania herself suffers from aphonia - she does not speak after the Germans had killed her father and brother. The unusual relationship that is born in the midst of a heartbreaking silence between the child and rural misfit, finally makes the girl break up - eventually she starts speaking. 20 years later, Hania returns to Poland from Israel. She is traveling to the places where she used to spend her childhood, she meets people who have contributed to her rescue. New facts are being disclosed from the life of the villagers, related to embrace of a little Jewish girl. It turns out that just as they saved Hania’s life, she saved their humanity.
