"Stars" is the story of Jan Banaś - the famous Polish national team right-wing midfielder whose goal gave Poland the lead against England and helped them secure passage to the 1974 World Cup. Jan Banaś (Mateusz Kościukiewicz), of Polish-German origin, grows up in Silesia. From childhood, his greatest passion is soccer, and his greatest rival - a devoted friend, Ginter (Sebastian Fabijański). As time passes, their rivalry evolves from their backyard to the stadiums of Silesian football clubs: Polonia Bytom and Górnik Zabrze. But when they both begin courting the same girl – the beautiful Marlena (Karolina Szymczak) – they quickly discover that there are no rules in the game of love. When a serious injury brings an end to his friend’s career, and pushes him closer to the national team, Banaś faces a difficult choice that will determine the rest of his life, with his participation in the World Cup hanging in the balance. “Stars” takes viewers back to Poland’s most storied period in soccer history, when “Górski’s Eagles” claimed 3rd place at the 1974 World Cup. It appears just in time for Poland’s first qualification to the World Cup since 2006, on the back of Robert Lewandowski’s record-breaking 16 goals in Qualifying.
